From the studio
Notes
JKCA Studio is a web and care studio in Seal Beach; these are short notes on how we build and look after small business websites, and why.
- A contact form that sorts junk from leads before anyone reads it
The KneppKraft contact form now scores every submission before it sends an email. Real inquiries reach the inbox, doubtful ones wait in a morning digest, and junk is counted, not delivered. Nothing is ever thrown away.
- A morning paper my desk prints for me
JKCA Studio's desk prints a one-page morning paper at six every day from free public data: local weather and surf, scores, a few topics and markets, written as plain sentences and nothing invented.
- Backgrounds come from nature, through a lens
JKCA Studio's backgrounds start as real photographs of natural patterns like ocean, smoke and kelp, then get zoomed, turned, tinted and slowed until the subject is gone and only the pattern is left.
- Every site keeps a backstage page
Every multi-page site JKCA Studio builds keeps a private backstage page: one index of every page and data feed, each tagged live, local, sandbox or data. The underscore in its file name keeps it out of every deploy.
- Giving the person in the house a voice
JKCA Studio plans a simple channel for the person who lives with a project but doesn't pay for it: a page that says how the work is going and a weekly text from a named person.
- One button kit for every surface
JKCA Studio runs one control kit across its own surfaces: the studio site, care, the client portal and Kindform. One CSS file sets the shape, edge, hover and focus of every button, and a site maps its colors to it once instead of inventing its own.
- The LIVE line: what has to be true before a site is called live
JKCA Studio keeps a written LIVE line: the checks a site passes before anyone calls it live, from the live host serving the latest build to a real form submit that lands in the client's inbox.
- Two reverts, one cause, stop
JKCA Studio runs AI builders across client sites under one stopping rule: when two pieces of work get rolled back for the same reason, the run ends and the gap goes to a person as a decision.
- What monthly care actually covers
JKCA Studio's care plans run month to month from $69 a month. The tiers are sorted by how much hands-on time is included, the report only claims what monitoring actually saw, and a site that takes orders goes on a store plan.
- Gates before done
JKCA Studio uses AI builders on client sites, and nothing counts as done until it clears written checks: a brief first, every page at three screen widths, nothing invented, and a person signing off because the work carries our name.
- Intake forms don't get finished
Long intake forms lose people halfway down the page. Kindform, the questionnaire tool JKCA Studio built, asks one question per screen, saves every answer as it's typed, and gives the client a link to pick up where they stopped.
- Sites that don't need WordPress shouldn't keep it
Most small business sites run WordPress for pages that almost never change, and every plugin is one more thing to update and one more way in. Here is what a static Astro site on Cloudflare changes for an owner, and when WordPress is still the right call.
